Loon Photography Tours - Lac Le Jeune and Kamloops Area Lakes

Do a search on Google for photography workshops and photo tours and you may be surprised. One of the top locations that is marketed by a number of different tour companies is Lac Le Jeune. Yes that is our Lac Le Jeune just a short distance from Kamloops, British Columbia. Marketed alongside the Great Bear Rainforest, the Khutzymateen Valley, Alaska , Africa and other iconic nature and wildlife viewing and photography areas is Lac Le Jeune. What is the attraction? The Common Loon; I’m not being derogatory that is the current name. There is a proposal from the International Ornithological Society to change the name to the Great Northern Loon which seems to reflect its majestic beauty much more accurately. Judging from the number of workshops that are now marked as ‘sold out’ there is obviously a strong desire to photograph these beautiful birds. Sometimes we don’t appreciate what is in our own backyard. If you are local and don’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a workshop but would like the opportunity to hone your photographic skills and capture some stunning photographs of these beautiful birds we can make that happen. Crazy about Loons is one of the nature and wildlife photography workshops or photo tours that we offer. We also offer this service to visitors. Please visit the photo tour section of our website for more information. Great dates in June 2012 are still available; this is the best time to capture photographs of loons with their chicks.

Grizzly Bear Photography Tour – Khutzamateen, BC

Mike and I are eagerly awaiting our trip back to the majestic Khutzamateen Valley. This is British Columbia’s only Grizzly Bear Sanctuary; it is also home to other wildlife including black bears and wolves. This will be our fourth trip and we are still giddy with anticipation. Unlike our other trips, we are invited two guests to join us aboard the Sun Chaser. Our guests will receive personal coaching and photographic instruction. The cost for this trip is $1900.00/person. That is the standard cost of the trip, the photo instruction and mentoring is free. Click here for more information.

Megan

I had the pleasure of meeting Megan at a photo workshop at Dufferin Elementary School. I challenged the students to take macro (close-up) photographs and work with different perspectives. I was blown away when I received the email containing Megan’s work.  A few of her photographs are featured in this month’s edition of Kamloops Momma Magazine.

Thanks for sharing Megan, I look forward to seeing more of your fabulous work. And a big thank you to Mrs. Hunter for inviting me into your classroom. Happy retirement Mrs. Hunter – you will be missed!

No Limits – Just Possibilities

I did my first Helping Hearts session today. Enter Catie, a fireball of energy and determination. Catie was born with Down Syndrome and had heart surgery when she was just 3 months old. Now 6, Catie is happy and healthy. She shares a love of music and dance with big brother, Robbie. And thanks to her loving family she know no limits and see only possibilities!  I can’t wait to see what this special little girl will accomplish in the years to come.

Catie was determined to soak her Mom and me :)

Busy, Busy, Busy ….

Wow, summer has brought a lot of new business. I have had little time to add new posts between workshops, weddings, photo sessions and editing. I am hoping to get caught up soon!  Enjoy your summer!

Shoot for the Moon

I love helping people get the most out of their cameras. Tava wanted to learn how to take better flower photos. We spent a few hours “playing”. The results are spectacular. I can’t wait to see more of Tava’s work.  Tava was using a Nikon D100 and a Tamaron Macro lens.

A Tribute to Mothers and Daughters

During the month of May we will be raising money for the new ICU at Royal Inland Hospital. A $20.00 donation will entitle you to a half hour photo session and an 8×10 photograph. Additional prints and digital files may be purchased.

To book a session please email us and we will contact you to find the perfect time, date and location for your shoot.

The donation will be made in the loving memory of Donna Johansson the mother of my dear friend Kelly.

Playtime

On Saturday evening my family and I headed out for an adventure. As always, we had our photography gear in tow.  We played in the hills above the university then headed to the beach to enjoy the soft, warm light of the setting sun. Pure magic!

My son, now 4, asked if he could take a photo of me. I forgot to bring his point and shoot so I handed over my Nikon. It’s a big, heavy camera and hard to hold still but he waited patiently for me to sit then said “Okay mom, look here” and pressed the shutter release button. This is his shot:

And here’s a few shots from our adventure:

Such a great day!
